Frequently Asked Questions

California does require that all vehicles that are operated on public lands must be registered in the state of your residence. If your state does not require registration, then you will be required to have a California "Non-Resident" registration. Contact the DMV or your local ATV/UTV dealer for this permit.

Nevada residents who have registered their OHV in the Silver State under the new OHV Silver Sticker program do NOT need to purchase a California non-resident sticker.

Non-Resident Permit: You will need to purchase a special "Nonresident OHV Permit" if you are not a California resident AND your off-highway vehicle is not registered in your home state. Your state's plate or sticker must be clearly visible on the vehicle. To find out where these Nonresident OHV Permits can be purchased and to get more information on the program, please visit the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation site. (Nonresident OHV Use Permits (CA.gov))

For complete rules and regulations, please visit the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Laws / Safety site. (Laws/Safety (CA.gov))
